Review Of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Review Of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Produced by: Dharma Productions and UTV Motion Pictures
     Directed by: Ayan Mukerji
Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Paadukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kalki Koechliene, Dolly Ahlluwalia, Faarooq Sheikh and Kunal Roy Kapur
     Star Rating: 2.5 Stars
                    (SCRIPT)
Ayan Mukerji written a very common drama, which is mixture of 'Love and Friendship'. Story is quite weak, even you can say there is no story, only small plot works in the film. YJHD is a story of two people as different from one another as sky from earth. Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) is a care free young man, who likes adventures and wants to roam every corner of the earth, but he doesn`t believe in the the institution of love and marriage. He lives with his father (Farooq Sheikh) and Step-mother (Tanvi Azmi). His best friends are Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Aditi (Kalki Koechlin), who are as fun living as him. Aditi loves Avi, but he is not aware about this. The three goes to trekking trip to Manali as a part of larger group. Naina Talwar (Deepika Paadukone) is a serious girl, who used to study in same school and class as Bunny and is now studying medicine, joins the trekking group. Slowly but surely Bunny and Naina grow very fond of each other during the trip. Naina learns how to live an enjoyable life from Bunny. But one day, all three friends get to know that Bunny has got a scholarship to study travel Journalism in Chicago. He leaves for Chicago and came India, after almost 8 years to attend the marriage of Aditi in Udaipur. He meets Naina again and this time Bunny also falls in love with Naina. So, does he sacrifice his dreams for Naina? Climax clear all answers.
Ayan Mukerji`s screenplay is not well written. His screenplay don`t engage the audience with some parts of film. There are lots of ups and downs in both first and second half. His screenplay also failed to clear some doubts about unaware affair of Aditi and Avi. Dialogues penned by Hussain Dalaal are well written. Even, single liner dialogues suits to the content of the film. But there are also some PJ`s, which feels meaningless. Like as "Jo ladkiya jyada enjoy karti hain, woh pregnant ho jaati hain". Overall, Script is below to the mark and could be well written.
                     PERFORMANCES
Ranbir Kapoor is a charmer as Bunny. He looks fantastic, acts marvellously and dances straight from the heart. This is yet another award winning performance of this dashing Kapoor. His innocent face and mature acting are deadly combination. Deepika Paadukone acts wonderfully and it is finest performance of this dimple girl till date. Deepika adds lots of layers in the character of Naina Talwaar. Aditya Roy Kapur is just too lovely and extremely natural. He lends excellent support. Kalki Koechline brings biggest surprise with her memorable performance. Kunal Roy Kapur is cute and natural. Dolly Ahlluwalia and Faarooq Sheikh are good in their respective roles. Poorna Jagnnath and Evelyn Sharma shines in very short roles.
              MUSIC AND DIRECTION
Pritam`s tunes once again worked for Ranbir Kapoor. 'Badtmeej Dil' and 'Balam Pichkaari' are hit chartbusters. 'Kabira' song suits to the moments. Ayan Mukerji`s direction is mature, but somewhere he failed to engage the audience with screenplay and entire film. Ayan Mukerji has added all the masala in the film, which is common in Karan Johar and Dharma`s romantic films.
                     MY WORD
'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is out and out urban film, which can easily impress to the classes, but masses may not like this Karan Johar product. If you are fan of love and friendship cocktail, then go YJHD is made for you. Otherwise, it is an one time watch film.
                       BOX OFFICE PERDICTION
Dharma Productions and UTV Motion Pictures has spent more that 40 crore rupees on this romantic comedy. Film is released in 3000 screens in all over the country. Due to urban content, film will do well in multiplexes and can disappoint in single screen theatres. The first day collection of the film can be 12-15 crore rupees.
